Florida Tech to Celebrate Newest Addition to the Aviation Fleet with ‘Skyward Together!’ Event Aug. 6

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech is set to host “Skyward Together!” an Aviation Celebration at the Emil Buehler Center for Aviation Training & Research in Melbourne on August 6.

The event is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.

Florida Tech’s 801 Emil Buehler Center for Aviation Training & Research is located at Harry Good Way in Melbourne.

This exciting, invitation-only special event features the arrival of the newest addition to the Florida Tech Aviation fleet as four Piper Pilot 100i aircraft are welcomed directly from Piper’s Vero Beach factory with a water cannon salute.

The morning begins with remarks touching on the Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust, a longtime university supporter instrumental in the development of Florida Tech’s renowned aviation training programs, and the ongoing success of Florida Tech Aviation. That will be followed by a major university announcement.

Hosted by Florida Tech President John Nicklow, who will offer remarks.  Other speakers include College of Aeronautics Dean John Deaton; Jay Arcemont, executive director of flight operations at the college; and Marc Ouellet, vice president, of engineering and manufacturing at Piper. With support from the Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust, Florida Tech purchased a total of eight Piper Pilot 100i aircraft for $3.2 million as the university continues to infuse new technology into its popular flight training programs at Florida Tech Aviation (formerly F.I.T. Aviation). Four aircraft arrived in May.

The Trust has been a generous and visionary Florida Tech supporter.  To date, it has given Florida Tech $4.2 million.

The gifts have supported the establishment of the Emil Buehler Center for Aviation Training & Research, which opened in 2009, as well as flight training for students, training simulators, and new Piper aircraft.

The Trust also helped Florida Tech become the first American university to own, fly, and research an electric plane.
