Palm Bay Police Identifies 23-Year-Old Victim Killed in Domestic Shooting

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Police officials identified 23-year-old Jaquelynn Wray as the victim of last Friday’s fatal shooting by 29-year-old convicted felon Joseph Fleming.
“She was the sister-in-law to the suspect, Joseph Fleming,” said Palm Bay Police Public Information Officer Lt. Virginia Kilmer. “Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
Lt. Kilmer said the suspect remains in critical condition at a local hospital, and the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting are currently under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
“The officers involved have been identified as Thomas Baker and John Neal, who bravely protected our community under extremely stressful conditions,” said Lt. Kilmer.
In accordance with department policy, they are on administrative leave while FDLE conducts a thorough investigation. We want to thank our community for the numerous messages of support to our officers and department.

A 29-year-old convicted felon suspected of killing a woman in Palm Bay is in critical condition after a shoot-out with Palm Bay police officers.
According to Palm Bay Police Public Information Officer Lt. Virginia Kilmer, Palm Bay Police officers responded to a 911 phone call at approximately 9:10 a.m. regarding a suspicious incident.
“Officers arrived on scene at approximately 9:13 a.m. and shortly thereafter, heard a gunshot from within the residence,” said Lt. Kilmer.
“The suspect exited the residence, shot at our officers, and gunfire was exchanged at approximately 9:18 a.m. The suspect then fled through the neighboring houses and a perimeter was established. After an extensive search, the Brevard County Aviation Unit was able to locate the suspect nearby, with injuries.”
Lt. Kilmer said the gunman was airlifted to a local trauma center and is in critical condition.
“A female victim was located, deceased, inside the residence where the suspect was seen exiting and preliminary investigation suggests this incident was domestic in nature,” said Lt. Kilmer.
Lt. Kilmer identified the suspect is identified as 29-year-old, Joseph Fleming. He is a convicted felon with an extensive criminal history.
According to officials, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is on the scene and will be investigating this incident.
“Our involved officers will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure,” said Lt. Kilmer.
“The Palm Bay Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the families, as they endure this tragic event. We extend our gratitude to our partners at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the West Melbourne Police Department, and Palm Bay Fire Rescue for their assistance,” Said Palm Bay Police Chief Mario Augello.
