Lisa P. Singer — “On the Basis of Democracy” Podcast Host Leaves Successful IT Career to Fight Antisemitism
By Space Coast Daily // November 1, 2024

Lisa Singer made a major change in 2024, stepping away from her 27-year IT career to become an advocate for democracy and Jewish affairs.
As the first woman to own an MSP consulting firm in the U.S., she not only built a thriving business but also empowered numerous employees along the way.
A teacher at heart, she felt called to address the increasing threats to democracy and the rise of antisemitism, leading to the launch of her new podcast, On the Basis of Democracy. Now, she uses her platform to fight hate, promote democratic principles, and address important issues facing the Jewish community.
“While I may not hold a PhD or be a prominent figure, I believe every voice can contribute to positive change, no matter how small. By protecting and promoting American and Israeli democratic values, we serve as a beacon of hope in a dark world,” she says.
By blending her professional experiences with her personal passions, Singer is ready to tackle some of the most pressing problems in the U.S. and around the world. Through her new platform, she aims to create a safe space where her audience is encouraged to understand and fight for the democratic principles that make society safe, fair, free, and prosperous for everyone.
Guided by Jewish Tradition and Beliefs
Singer’s commitment to defending democracy is deeply rooted in her Jewish faith. Growing up in a household profoundly shaped by the memories of the European pogroms and the Holocaust, she learned early on the vital importance of speaking out against injustice and discrimination. She believes that the Declaration of Independence’s assertion that we are endowed with unalienable rights to pursue life, liberty, and happiness—for all, regardless of race or religion—resonates powerfully with Jewish traditions and teachings. This shared purpose drives her commitment to promoting peace, both in America and globally.
“In the Jewish tradition, we are reminded that the work of repairing the world cannot be sidelined. We must not turn our back on the task at hand but stand together, united, to make our land grand,” she says.
In On the Basis of Democracy, Singer often uses Jewish teachings to help explain ideas about democracy and justice. She views her Jewish identity not only as her heritage but as a guide for how to live out values like compassion, integrity, and generosity. These convictions have driven both her business success and her advocacy efforts, and they continue to encourage her as she takes on the challenges of Antisemitism and Antizionism.
To inspire her work, Singer draws on the voices of influential figures like Rabbi Joachim Prinz, Elie Wiesel, Stephen Spielberg, and Oprah Winfrey. Their words remind her of the moral responsibility everyone shares when it comes to combatting hate and protecting democratic principles, and their wisdom serves as a guiding force in her podcast.
Singer’s Response to the Rise of Antisemitism
One of the main reasons Singer decided to switch from technology to activism was because she noticed the huge jump in antisemitism around the country since 2015. In February 2023, when white supremacist groups declared a national “Day of Hate,” she felt the gravity of the moment.
“If today is a day of hate, what is next week? Day of Death?” she says. Walking to the synagogue that day, she thought about how the increased security measures had become standard practice in Jewish spaces, almost like a new normal. This was an unsettling reflection of the growing hostility toward the community. Seeing the escalating danger everyone faced, she realized she couldn’t stand by and do nothing and decided it was time to take action.
From that moment forward, Singer committed herself to addressing antisemitism head-on. Through “On the Basis of Democracy,” she confronts the growing wave of hate and emphasizes that when hate is directed at one group, it puts all groups at risk. This rising antisemitism is often referred to as the “canary in the coal mine,” a warning signal indicating danger in the health of our democratic institutions. She discusses how this hatred not only threatens Jewish people but undermines the very foundations of democracy itself. Hate destabilizes the principles of equality and justice that are essential to democracy, even if it seems focused solely on one group.
For Singer, fighting against antisemitism is about preserving the democratic ideals that the United States holds dear. She urges her audience to speak up and take action, recognizing that the protection of rights and freedoms is a responsibility that extends to all communities, not just their own.
A Business Philosophy of Putting People First
Singer’s discussions are informed by her personal experiences as a Jewish American and a business leader. Before entering the advocacy world, she built a highly successful IT firm where her leadership style focused on supporting people to help them succeed.
Her approach was inspired by figures like Aaron Feuerstein, CEO of Malden Mills in Lawrence, Massachusetts, who prioritized his employees even in times of crisis, continuing to pay them and letting them keep their benefits after a fire burned down his factory. Singer believed caring for her team’s well-being was more important than profit, creating an environment where employees felt valued and supported.
Many of her employees stayed with her for years, reflecting the strong culture she built within her company. Singer invested time and resources into helping her team develop professionally, ensuring they had the tools to succeed. Seeing her team members grow into more advanced roles and move into the middle class through the opportunities her business provided brought her immense pride.
This focus on empowerment still shapes her advocacy work today, where she uplifts others through her message of collective action. Singer believes in nurturing others’ potential, which she makes clear in her podcast. She speaks directly to her audience, encouraging them to take an active role in shaping the type of world they want to live in.
A Passion for Mentorship and Uplifting Others
Mentorship has always been central to Singer’s life. She often helps people find jobs and build networks, encouraging them to confidently pursue their dreams. Believing that everyone possesses unique talents waiting to be unlocked, she is dedicated to providing support and guidance to help others realize their full potential.
As a mentor, Singer truly listens to the challenges faced by those she supports. She shares her knowledge and experiences, offering constructive feedback and practical advice that empowers individuals to overcome obstacles and make informed decisions. Beyond professional guidance, she fosters a sense of community, emphasizing that collaboration and connection are essential for personal growth.
Singer also volunteers with local organizations to promote education and personal development. She knows mentorship is not just about career advancement; it’s about nurturing the human spirit. By creating a positive impact in her community, she inspires hope and reinforces the belief that with determination and support, anyone can achieve greatness.
She’s also been involved in teaching in numerous ways—from leading Sunday school to guiding computer engineers and working as a camp counselor and youth group leader. Anytime there’s a family function or an event at her synagogue, she’s always the first choice to deliver a speech.
Singer graduated from Loyola University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). One of her proudest moments as a mentor was helping a close friend earn his own MCSE certification. Under Singer’s guidance, he started an accomplished career in IT, eventually moving on to work for the Israeli government and several Fortune 500 companies.
“Like all of you, I have consistently juggled various responsibilities—from working long hours, raising my two children, spending time with family and friends, and contributing to my community. With so much on my plate, the idea of making a more considerable impact on a national level seemed out of reach,” she says.
Through “On the Basis of Democracy,” Singer shows how everyone has the potential to make a difference, so long as they are willing to use their voice to speak on the issues that truly matter to them. She inspires her listeners to get involved, showing that real change starts with standing up for what’s right—regardless of who they are.
Expanding On the Basis of Democracy and Continuing Advocacy
In a recent interview, Lisa Singer shared her profound thoughts on the responsibilities of living in America, a beacon of democracy dedicated to the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all. She emphasized that this privilege comes with a unique responsibility, particularly for the Jewish community. Reflecting on the history of Jewish refugees who found safe haven in the United States since 1654, she noted the promise that democracy holds and the imperative to protect our democratic institutions, ensuring they remain vibrant and inclusive.
Having endured 2,000 years of discrimination and oppression, Singer understands all too well the realities of life under tyranny. For her, America represents the first place in history—outside of Israel—where Jews have been treated as equals. “We must never take this for granted,” she stated. “Our responsibility is to safeguard the freedoms we enjoy and to be a beacon of hope for peace around the world, embodying the Jewish belief of being ‘A light unto the nations.’”
In discussing her advocacy work, Singer highlighted the connection between hate and fear, suggesting that behind every act of Antisemitic hate often lies a more profound fear, which is frequently rooted in a lie. “I believe our traditions and rituals serve a greater purpose—to give thanks for our blessings, repair this fractured world through acts of kindness, and ultimately bring peace on earth,” she explained. She believes that within a democratic government, America has shown the world that no matter one’s skin color or religion, as long as we fulfill our civic responsibilities for our country and care for our families and communities, we can all enjoy the precious gift of living in the greatest democracy in history. “Even with its imperfections, we should strive not for unattainable perfection, which invites only criticism, but for excellence that elevates and brings us together.”
Singer’s advocacy goes beyond her podcast, “On the Basis of Democracy.” Since she was 18, she has dedicated herself to volunteering for nonprofits and providing pro bono IT support to various organizations. Actively involved in her synagogue, the Jewish private school her children attend, and initiatives like Moms Demand Action—focused on sensible gun violence prevention—her commitment to service runs deep.
Her transition from a tech career to activism is deeply personal. As a Jewish woman, mother, and lifelong Chicagoan, her experiences have illuminated the increasing threats to the cherished ideals of justice and equality. Lisa seeks to leverage her platform for a more significant cause and is eager to expand her reach and effect change.
“For me, this podcast is more than just a project; it’s a personal mission,” she asserts. “I want to uphold my values and inspire others to do the same.” As her passion project evolves, she is committed to using her voice to spark crucial conversations and drive collective action.
“I invite you to join me on this journey of enlightenment and mutual support,” she says. “Together, let’s strive for a better world founded on the principles of democracy.”
