Suntree United Methodist Church to Host Raleigh Ringers Concert on Nov. 18

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – So you think you know handbells? Get ready for a performance of surprising dimensions when Suntree United Methodist Church hosts the Raleigh Ringers at 7:00 p.m. on November 18 at the church located at 7400 North Wickham Road in Melbourne.

The internationally acclaimed, Emmy-nominated handbell choir from Raleigh, North Carolina, began in 1990 and has been dazzling concert audiences ever since.

Why? The Raleigh Ringers’ professional-level musicians play music not usually associated with handbells. Attendees to the concert by the Raleigh Ringers will hear unique interpretations of sacred, secular, and popular music, with a generous infusion of rock-n-roll tunes!

The Raleigh Ringers handbell choir also has a Space Coast connection: Former Port St. John resident Keith Burt is a 19-year veteran of the elite group looking forward to seeing familiar Brevard faces in the audience. Under the direction of David M. Harris, The Raleigh Ringers has performed in 39 States and the District of Columbia, France, England, and Canada.

The concert is free, with a suggested donation of $20.

As director of Traditional Music for Suntree United Methodist Church, Dr. Robert E. Lamb conducts the church’s choir and handbell choir. He looks forward to welcoming the community to a concert by the internationally acclaimed Raleigh Ringers.

“I’m very excited that SUMC can host the Raleigh Ringers in concert,” said Dr. Lamb. ” I met David at a workshop in 1990 and have enjoyed seeing the reputation of this ensemble blossom over the years.”

“As a North Carolinian by birth,” Lamb continued, “I’m happy that they represent my home state so magnificently around the world! Their public television appearances at Christmas time were favorites of my parents– and I have warm memories of watching them when I was home for the holidays.”
