Traffic Stop By Melbourne Police Night Watch Bravo Unit Results in Major Drug, Firearm Seizure

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — In the early hours of Sunday, August 3, a proactive traffic stop at the intersection of Babcock Street and Eber Boulevard conducted by the Melbourne Police Department’s Night Watch Bravo Unit led to the discovery and seizure of a substantial quantity of illegal narcotics and a firearm. 

A police K9 unit was deployed during the encounter and quickly alerted officers to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

Upon searching the car, officers recovered approximately 189 grams of cocaine, 5 grams of MDMA, and 2.7 pounds of marijuana.

A firearm was also located inside the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Eduardo Altuna, a 45-year-old male, was taken into custody.

Altuna, who claimed to be working as an Uber driver, now faces multiple charges, including trafficking cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of MDMA, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

His bond is set at over $200,000.

An MPD spokesperson said the case highlights the department’s ongoing efforts to disrupt drug activity through strategic and proactive policing.
