The NCAA Division I Administrative Committee voted Wednesday to remove the spring transfer window, signaling a significant change in how athletes will be allowed to switch schools.

The decision leaves only one transfer period on the calendar, though the exact timing has not yet been finalized.

The committee is expected to determine specific dates during its October meeting, with discussions centering on a proposed 10-day window in early January.

That adjustment comes after Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) coaches advocated earlier this year for a transfer period to open immediately after the College Football Playoff.

Under the current proposal, the window would run from Jan. 2 to Jan. 11, aligning with the end of the postseason.

Until now, the winter transfer window typically opened in December before bowl games, sometimes creating distractions ahead of marquee matchups.

The NCAA’s shift is intended to keep athletes focused on postseason play while still allowing movement before the spring semester begins.

The spring transfer option, which was first introduced as 15 days in April 2023, had already been shortened to 10 days for the 2024–25 cycle. With Wednesday’s vote, that option will no longer be available moving forward.

The upcoming October session will finalize the new framework, setting the stage for a streamlined transfer process that could significantly reshape roster management across Division I athletics.
