North boat ramp at Front Street Park remains open

The City of Melbourne has temporarily closed the south and middle boat ramps at Front Street Park because of high water levels along the Indian River Lagoon.
City officials said the decision was made to ensure the safety of boaters and to protect the ramps from potential damage caused by strong currents and flooding conditions. The closures will remain in place until water levels drop to a safe level.
The North boat ramp at Front Street Park remains open and available for public use, giving boaters continued access to the River. The city has asked residents and visitors to use extra caution when navigating the area, as fluctuating water levels can create hazardous conditions.
Front Street Park, located just south of Melbourne’s historic downtown district, is one of the most popular boating and fishing access points in Brevard County. The park features multiple ramps, ample parking for trailers, picnic pavilions, and a playground. It serves as a hub for recreational boaters, anglers, and families looking to enjoy the waterfront.
The Indian River Lagoon itself is a vital estuary stretching along Florida’s east coast, home to more than 4,000 species of plants and animals.
The waterway plays an important role in the local economy, supporting tourism, fishing, and boating industries. Seasonal changes, storms, and heavy rainfall can cause water levels to rise, leading to temporary closures like this one.
City officials will continue to monitor conditions and will announce when the south and middle ramps at Front Street are safe to reopen. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through the City of Melbourne’s official website and social media channels for the latest updates.
