Teen Reunites With Cocoa Police Officers and Firefighters Who Saved His Life

16-year-old was working on a vehicle in his garage when the jack collapsed

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A Cocoa teenager met the heroes who saved his life after a car he was working on fell on him, crushing his upper torso. The teen was so grateful to have survived the incident that he asked to meet the first responders who had rescued him.

On Tuesday, the crew from Cocoa Fire Rescue Engine 33, along with the patrol officer and communications officer who responded to the call, met the boy at his home on Pinyon. His family and neighbors, who also helped, were present to share in the grateful moment.

On September 12, just after 7 p.m., the 16-year-old was working on a vehicle in his garage when the jack collapsed, causing the car to fall and pin him underneath. Unable to breathe, he cried out for help.

He had his phone with him and was able to call 9-1-1.

A calm, steady voice from a Cocoa Police Department communications officer stayed on the line with him as neighbors rushed to his side and first responders raced to the scene.

Within minutes, Cocoa police officers and firefighters arrived at the scene. Working together, they were able to lift the car and free the young man. Thanks to their quick actions, he survived the ordeal without any permanent injuries.

During the emotional reunion, the teen was able to personally thank the men and women who gave him a second chance at life.

“This reunion is a reminder that behind every call is a life worth saving,” said Lt. Patrick Madden. “We are proud of our team and so grateful this young man is here with us today.
