BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA — A 40-year-old Brevard County woman was arrested this week after allegedly threatening to bomb and burn down Rockledge High School during a heated phone exchange with school staff, according to police.

Investigators said the suspect, identified as Brandie Covington, became enraged on Tuesday after learning that her daughter’s boyfriend had his school-issued lunch taken away because there were no funds in his meal account.

According to an arrest affidavit, Covington called the school to complain and began shouting and using profanity when an employee attempted to explain school policy for students with unpaid balances.

“Covington was irate because her daughter’s boyfriend had his school-supplied lunch taken away from him due to lack of funds in his account,” the affidavit stated.

“The employee began to explain the school’s process of dealing with students without money in their account, and Covington began to yell and cuss at her.”

Police said the employee tried to calm Covington, but the conversation escalated when Covington allegedly said, “I’ll be over there to blow that f***** school up,” before hanging up.

Moments later, the assistant principal’s office received a second call from Covington in which she reportedly threatened to “burn the school down,” investigators said.

Officers went to Covington’s home, where she admitted to calling the school but denied making any threats. She was taken into custody and charged with threatening to discharge a destructive device, a felony offense under Florida law.

Covington was booked into the Brevard County Jail and later released on $75,000 bond on Thursday, records show.

No injuries or damages were reported, and the Rockledge Police Department said there was no active threat to the school at any point during the investigation.
