City of Rockledge Sanitation Provides Clear Guidance on What Belongs in Recycling Bin

Sanitation crews have noticed items incorrectly placed in recycling containers

BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – The City of Rockledge Sanitation Division is reminding residents to make sure that only acceptable materials are placed in recycling bins and that non-recyclable items should go in regular household trash.

Sanitation crews have noticed several items being incorrectly placed in recycling containers.

These items include plastic produce containers, foam meat trays, take out containers, plastic chairs, plastic buckets and large storage bins, straws, plastic hangers, and disposable cookware or plates made of plastic or foam.

These materials cannot be processed and often cause delays or damage at recycling facilities.

Only certain types of plastics are recyclable, so residents are encouraged to refer to the Rockledge Recycles infographic and the informational sticker located on the lid of their recycling container.

These resources provide clear guidance on what belongs in the recycling bin and what should be discarded as trash.

The city reminds residents that when uncertain about an item, it is better to throw it away than risk contamination. The Sanitation Division appreciates the community’s ongoing support in keeping the recycling program efficient and effective.
