Palm Bay Fire Rescue reported that a container at the FAR Research center, located near U.S. Hwy. 1 and R.J. Conlan, released vapor into the air earlier today after its safety system activated. The incident occurred approximately three hours before officials issued their update.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Fire Rescue reported that a container at the FAR chemical research center near U.S. Hwy. 1 and R.J. Conlan released vapor into the air recently after its safety system activated.

The incident occurred approximately three hours before officials issued their update.

According to the plant manager, the container’s safety mechanism functioned as designed, venting when pressure levels reached an unsafe threshold.

Fire Rescue personnel met with site management to review details about the materials involved and confirmed that the release was an isolated event.

No injuries were reported, and on-site staff have taken steps to ensure all other containment systems are operating correctly. The plant manager also emphasized that the vapor released is harmless to people, pets, wildlife, soil, and the environment.

Hazardous materials and fire rescue crews remained at the facility for nearly two hours to conduct precautionary air quality monitoring.

All test results returned normal, and teams have since begun clearing the scene. Officials confirmed that there are no ongoing hazards or additional concerns related to the incident.
