Community Band of Brevard Brings Cheer to Merritt Island With Dec. 7 Holiday Concert

Admission to A CBOB Holiday Concert is free, with no ticket or reserved seating required

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – The Community Band of Brevard will welcome the holiday season with its annual program of festive music during A CBOB Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 7, at the Merritt Island High School Auditorium.

The free performance begins at 3 p.m. at 100 Mustang Way, just off North Courtenay Parkway.

The concert will feature a complete selection of Christmas favorites arranged for band, including the nostalgic Christmas from the 50s and Leroy Anderson’s Christmas Festival.

Audiences will hear well-known classics such as The Most Wonderful Time of the Year and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, as well as playful selections including Jingle Them Bells and Secret Agent Santa.

The program will also honor the traditions of Chanukah with Fanfare for the Festival of Lights and A Chanukah Celebration. In a nod to the band’s musical heritage, the performance will include Stars and Stripes for Christmas by John Philip Sousa.

The Community Band of Brevard, a past recipient of the prestigious Sudler Silver Scroll Award from the John Philip Sousa Foundation, is directed by former military bandleader Robin Kessler. Known for drawing large crowds each December, the annual holiday concert is one of the band’s most anticipated events of the year.

Kessler encourages attendees to arrive early, noting that the program’s popularity often fills the auditorium well before the performance begins. He describes the concert as a lively musical celebration that evokes the joy, nostalgia, and excitement of the season.

Formed in 1985, the Community Band of Brevard is a volunteer ensemble of musicians who perform multiple free concerts throughout the year, offering a repertoire that spans classical works, jazz, contemporary pieces, big band selections, and show tunes. Kessler, who has conducted the ensemble since 2021, brings decades of experience as an Army Band Commander and music educator.
