BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Our Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post #321 continues to demonstrate exceptional professionalism and commitment following a productive and competitive weekend in Sarasota County, which was hosted by the Florida Sheriff’s Explorer Association.

During the event, Explorers from across the state participated in multiple marksmanship divisions, including First-Time Shooter, Tyro, Marksman, Expert, and Explorer Team Overall scoring.

Notably, Lt. Castagna of our team earned an impressive 3rd-place finish in the Centerfire (9mm) Marksmanship division, reflecting a high level of skill and disciplined training.

Beyond competition, the weekend provided extensive hands-on instruction across a variety of critical law enforcement topics.

Training scenarios included Active Assailant Response, Traffic Stops, Physical Fitness development, Public Speaking, and Taser deployment with de-escalation techniques utilizing virtual reality platforms.

These experiences are designed to build both technical proficiency and decision-making under pressure.

Leadership within the program also continues to stand out as Sgt. Dawson Gutowski, a member of the FSEA Store Committee, has been nominated by both the Indian River County and St. Lucie County Explorer programs to run for the position of East Central FSEA Vice President.

The election will take place during the upcoming State Competition.

Looking ahead, Explorer Post #321 will compete at the State Competition from June 28 through July 3.

The team will be tested across a comprehensive range of disciplines, including Firearms Proficiency, Active Shooter Response, Building Clearing, Burglary and Theft, Loitering and Prowling, Crime Scene Investigation, Cell Extractions, Cell Searches, Traffic Stops, Felony Traffic Stops, Officer Down scenarios, Unknown Trouble calls, and the Florida Standard Physical Abilities Test.

I could not be prouder of our Explorers as they continue to represent Brevard County with dedication and leadership that defines and prepares the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
