Donald C. Neilan passed away peacefully at age 99 on February 3, 2026, in Melbourne, Florida.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Donald C. Neilan passed away peacefully at the age of 99 years on February 3, 2026, in Melbourne, Florida.
He was the beloved husband of Mary Lou (Reed) for 63 years, who predeceased him in 2011. Don was born July 2, 1926, to Dorothy and Harry Neilan Sr. of Groton.
He had two brothers, Harry Jr. and Frank, and a son, Donald Reed Neilan, all of whom predeceased him.
Don leaves behind a daughter, Pamela Mauldin, and her husband, Victor; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who adored him. Don’s moral compass was well known and admired.
Don proudly served in the Submarine Service aboard the USS Anthedon AS-24 in World War II.
After his military service, he started working for SNET. His work ethic led to his advancement from lineman to management and to his selection to participate in the AT&T antitrust suit.
Thereafter, he and Mary Lou retired to Florida.
His hobbies included ham radio, fishing, golfing, dancing, and metal detecting.
Don and Mary Lou enjoyed many happy years together in Palm Bay Colony, making friends and participating in activities.
After Many Lou’s passing, his Palm Bay friends and the community as a whole reached out to ensure he was included.
