New facility will bring in an additional 200 jobs to Florida's Space Coast

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Economic Development Commission (EDC) of Florida’s Space Coast congratulated Extant Aerospace on the groundbreaking of its new state-of-the-art facility in Melbourne, marking an exciting new chapter for one of the region’s longstanding aerospace employers.
Founded in 1962 as Symetrics Engineering Corp. in Brevard County, Extant Aerospace has built a strong legacy of innovation, advanced manufacturing, and workforce excellence on Florida’s Space Coast.
The company’s continued investment in the community reflects its confidence in the region’s talented workforce and the resources that have supported its growth for generations.
Since 2012, Extant has completed over 30 acquisitions and exclusive license agreements in partnership with some of the biggest primes in the industry, including L3Harris Technologies, Collins Aerospace, and GE Aerospace.
The company now produces, repairs, and supports over 5,000 part numbers and assemblies across various commercial aerospace and defense platforms.
The new facility represents a more than $75 million investment in Melbourne and will include over 376,000 square feet of operational space, with an additional 120,000 square feet planned for future expansion.
Once fully operational, the facility is expected to support growth from more than 250 employees today to over 450 employees.
Extant’s decision to expand while remaining in the City of Melbourne highlights the strength of the Space Coast’s aerospace ecosystem and the availability of the skilled talent needed to support the future of the industry.
