Little League Squads Claim District 22 Titles

BREVARD COUNTY • INDIALANTIC, FLORIDA – When the calendar reaches June, the District 22 County Tournament always seems to be a prelude to an exciting summer of Little League All-Star competition.

This season’s tournament is no exception.

In the District 22 Juniors division championship game at Mitchell Ellington Park, Rockledge defeated Port St. John 18-3 in  seven innings to win  the tournament.

At McLarty Park in Rockledge, early Majors division baseball tournament action was intense. Port St. John beat Merritt Island 11-1 in 5 1/2 innings and Rockledge knocked off Mims 4-2 in 5 innings.

The late game at McLarty Park was rain-shortened and Rockledge beat Mims, 4- 2 in 5 innings.

As the tourney reached its later stages at McLarty Park, Mims edged Port St. John 8-7 in 6 innings and Meritt Island topped Indian River City 14-0 in 6 innings.

That left three teams – Indian River City, Merritt Island and Rockledge tied for the lead with 3-1 records. Per Little League tournament rules, run differentials were calculated to decide a champion. Merritt Island had the lowest run differential and was awarded the title,

At the Major Softball tournament at Holder Park in Mims, Rockledge won the title by defeating Cocoa 10-0 in 4 innings.

In the Senior Softball Tournament at Fay Park, Port St. John emerged as district county tournament champion.

At Mitchell Ellington Park, Rockledge outlasted Merritt Island Senior Little League 4-2 in 7 innings to claim the District 22 Senior baseball championship.

With the county tournament completed, District 22 Little League are now preparing for All-Stars play which opens in about a week and a half.
