BCSO, FBI Arrest Absconded Sexual Offender

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Yesterday, agents with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigations arrested Richard Francis Ludwig, 52, an absconded sexual offender who was living at 2452 Saint Swithin Lane in Melbourne, Florida.  (Map above)

Ludwig was charged with the Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex on a no bond status.  Agents are additionally awaiting confirmation on an active arrest warrant from Massachusetts relating to a Registration Violation.

The investigation was initiated after the Sheriff’s Office received a CRIMELINE tip referencing Ludwig and alleged criminal activities.  The investigation determined that in 2011, Ludwig cut off his ankle monitoring device and absconded from Massachusetts.

Ludwig has been residing in Melbourne as an unregistered sexual offender.  Ludwig was originally sentenced as a Level II Sex Offender in Massachusetts relating to a 2009 conviction of Indecent Assault and Battery on a child under eleven years of age.

A search warrant was executed at Ludwig’s residence subsequent to his arrest where agents seized a computer and other electronic media equipment.  Agents are awaiting the results of a forensic examination of the evidence to determine if additional charges will be filed.
