BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Holy Trinity’s second-straight trip to the Final Four resulted in a spot in the Class 4A championship game.

The Tigers held on to defeat Westminster Christian 41-38. They will play for the 4A title Thursday at 8 p.m live on BHSN Channel 47/HD 1147.

Westminster built an early 10-0 lead before Holy Trinity junior guard Cory Kaplan broke up the run with a layup. The Tigers cut into the lead in the second quarter when guard Josh Porteous scored seven straight points to pull Holy Trinity within two.

Holy Trinity took advantage of Westminster mistakes by turning 17 first-half turnovers into 16 points. The teams were knotted at 23-all going into halftime.

Westminster opened the low-scoring third quarter on an 6-0 run before Holy Trinity chipped away at the lead. Junior forward Tay Griffin tied the game at 29-all just before the end of the quarter, but Westminster laid in a bucket before the buzzer for a 31-29 lead heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth, the Tigers Kaplan, who led the team with 10 points, broke up a 33-all tie with a basket and sophomore guard Brandon Schwab extended the lead to 37-33 with a steal and a layup.

Holy Trinity closed out the game with free throws to advance to the championship game.

“It’s hard not to get choked up thinking about playing for a state title,” Holy Trinity coach Steve Henderson said.

“We don’t have any superstars, just a lot of really good players who play together as a team.”
