Doctors are now communicating with urgent care patients by phone, e-mail and webcam and using new devices to relay their blood pressure, heart rate and other vital signs to their doctors so they can manage chronic conditions at home. TeleHealth may be appropriate for patients with urgent but simple medical issues who are out of the area or who otherwise are unable to come to an urgent care site.

Examples of clinical problems which may be appropriate for Health First TeleHealth treatment includes Allergies, Asthma, Bronchitis, Cold and Flu, Constipation, Diarrhea, Ear Infection, Fever, Pink Eye, Insect Bites, Joint Aches, Nausea, Rashes, Sinus Infections, Sore Throat and UTI. Note: If you think you may have a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

HOW IT WORKS:

• Patient registers for a TeleHealth consultation online and selects an available call-back time.

• TeleHealth will call the patient at the designated phone number at the reserved time.

• The TeleHealth coordinator will verify the patient’s identity, confirm eligibility, take payment (credit card) information and update the patient’s medication and allergy information.

• The TeleHealth coordinator will hand-off the call to the healthcare provider who will consult with the patient regarding their acute problem and determine whether it can be initially managed over-the-phone.
