Little League Report: Mims, Merritt Island Advance to Baseball, Softball Section 3 Tournament

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – After some major delays for rain and lightning, All-Star District play continued in District 22. At Fay Park in Port St. John, the Visiting team from Merritt Island battled the Home team from Port St. John in the 10/11/12 Softball Tournament.
MAJOR SOFTBALL: Merritt Island 6, Port St. John 5
■ The Major (10/11/12) Softball division got underway on Sunday. The visitors from Merritt Island met the Home team from Port St. John at Fay Park.
For Merritt Island, Ember Gold accounted for 5 of the team’s runs with 2 triples and 5 RBI. Port St. John fought back as Jayden Marren had 2 great hits and struck out 3 of the Merritt Island batters in the first 4 innings with Addilyn Orrick-Cole finishing out on the mound for Port. Keilen Cecere pitched the complete game for Merritt Island as they took the win in a very close 6-5 game.
Merritt Island is the District 22 Champions in the 10/11/12 Softball Division and will represent District 22 at the Section 3 Tournament taking place at Palm Coast LL on June 26.
SENIOR BASEBALL: Mims 18, Cocoa/Indian River City 8
■ District 22 Senior Baseball kicked off at Holder Park in Mims with the visitors from Cocoa/Indian River City taking on the home team from Mims.
In the 5th inning, Mims’ Ray Fletcher entered the game as a Special Pinch Runner and scored the final run to give Mims the 18-8 win.
Mims is the District 22 Senior Baseball Champions and will represent the District in the Section 3 Tournament at Palm Coast LL on June 26th.
The District 22 Tournament picks up on Friday with the 8/9/10 Baseball Tournament at Indian River City LL’s W.W. James Park and the 9/10/11 Baseball Tournament at Port St. John LL’s Space Coast Communities Sports Complex in Canaveral Groves.
