BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The School Board for Brevard Public Schools voted 3-2 to extend the K-12 mask mandate policy 30-days during a meeting in Viera on Tuesday.
The measure will extend the mask policy 30-days until October 30, unless otherwise directed by the School Board, according BPS Board Members.
The 5-hour meeting was held at the Educational Services Facility located at 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way in Viera.
The meeting featured near 3-hours of public comment by various community leaders and parents of BPS students.
The mandate, which was put into place on August 30, was set to expire at the end of this month. The Board also changed language in the emergency mask mandate to allow people to remove masks while indoors if they are socially distanced by at least six feet. That part of the policy goes into effect on September 29.
