BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay Police Department recognized longtime volunteer Carl Moore with March’s VCOP Spotlight.

In 1991, Bellville, Illinois native Carl Moore retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service maintaining mainframe computers. He then spent time with a housing maintenance company and the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department.

When he moved to Florida in 2017, one of his cousins living in Palm Bay encouraged Carl to check out the VCOP program.

Turns out Moore loves the work of the VCOPs, most especially the fact that they take a load off officers so they can be out in the community doing their police work.

“Carl is busy as one of the in-vehicle VCOP patrol trainers, but he really enjoys his role as a courier,” said Palm Bay police officials.

Police courier duties include delivering the department’s electronic equipment to the maintenance facility in Rockledge and legal documents to the appropriate county and state offices. This provides him opportunities to give back to the community while he gets to know it better.

Moore and his wife Debbie have been married 51 years and have 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. They enjoy “Jeeping,” home projects, visiting family, and catching those fish and steak nights at the VFW, Moose Club, and American Legion.

If you would like to become a VCOP, send an email to VCOP@palmbayflorida.org or call 321-953-8987.
