Florida Tech Panthers Women’s Rowing Place 3rd at Sunshine State Conference Championships

Panthers to compete in the Dad Vail Regatt May 13

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech women’s rowing team was back at the familiar grounds of Nathan Benderson Park for the Sunshine State Conference championships, where the Panthers finished third.

Tech began the morning with the Varsity 4+. The shell of Yarisse Adorno Oyola (Coxswain), Farah Shabaan, Alexandria Easterling, Maggie Eure, and Kessler Cluck battled as they were bow ball to bow ball with Rollins for 1500 meters.

In the final 500, the Tars were able to pull away to claim second (8:59.6) giving Tech the third-place spot (9:06.1). Embry-Riddle finished with open water in 8:31.3 to take home the gold. Barry and Tampa crossed the line fourth and fifth, respectfully.

The Varsity 8+, consisting of Abbigale Smith (Coxswain), Liza Lutter, Sydney Freiberger, Julia Seibold, Simona Vileniskyte, Nour Ettaieb, Ismini Noni, Gabby Rodezno Wilson, and Elizabeth Weber, had a solid outing, also claiming third.

Barry (7:34.6) and Embry-Riddle (7:37.5) dominated the course taking first and second place. Tech followed with a 7:51.2 finish to secure third, with Rollins and Tampa rounding out the finishing order.

These efforts combined gave Tech 15 total points, which was good for a third-place overall finish. Embry-Riddle earned the SSC title with 22 points, while Barry settled for runner-up honors (19 points). Rollins was close behind Tech with 14 points, followed by Tampa (5 points).

Following the races, Lutter was named to the All-SSC Rowing Team, while Freiberger was selected to the SSC All-Freshman/Novice Team.
