BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay Police Department recognized longtime volunteer Tish Malys with this month’s VCOP Spotlight.
Proving that age is just a number, Malys, a senior VCOP member, continues making a difference in her community. Since April 2022, she has volunteered at the front desk of the Palm Bay Police Department.
As a woman who has volunteered in the community and church since her three children entered school, she and her husband decided early in life that it was important to give back. This desire to give back continues to this day.
While helping people in need at the front desk is a major part of her duties, there are also light-hearted moments. One tale she enjoys telling is when boxes of donuts were donated for the officers and staff. The suggestion to try a Maple Bacon donut tempted her.
Frustrated with her inability to see into the box as she is quite petite, one of the police commanders came to her rescue with a smile.
When asked about her hobbies, Tish says she has always enjoyed interacting and connecting with strangers, whether with a smile, a compliment, or a conversation.
Being a VCOP, helping people, and chatting with police staff and the public are a perfect fit for her.
If you would like to be a VCOP like Tish, contact 321-953-8987.
