BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools (BPS) opened a new middle school in Viera; accommodating the massive growth within the area. Seven-hundred students, in seventh and eighth grade, will now call Viera Middle School home, with a projected population for the school being capped at 900 students for the 2025-2026 school year.

Viera Middle School, home of the Owls, is a state-of-the-art, 139,000 square foot educational facility, sitting on 28 acres and boasting high-tech features such as Promethean Boards, three music rooms, and Career and Technology Education (CTE) centered labs including the Robotic and Aerospace Lab, and the Exploring Technology for Tech Design lab.

“We are thrilled to open Viera Middle School, a state-of-the-art public school,” said Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell. “It gives families a great public-school option for their middle schools closer to home. I recognize how important that is to this community.”

The funding for the middle school came directly from the impact fees of home sales in Viera, allowing the school to open debt free.

The middle school’s completion not only creates a new school pipeline for students living in Viera but also cuts down on the additional district costs accrued through transportation. “We had students that did not have a Middle School [in Viera] that had to travel over two causeways,” explained Matt Susin, School Board Member – District 4. “Not only was it a long ride, but it also cost our school district half a million dollars in transportation fees.”

Prior to the completion of Viera Middle School, students from Viera were transported to other public schools throughout the district.

“As the new principal for Viera Middle School, I look forward to the energy, and excitement of the first year and working with our students, teachers, staff, and families to define, develop and nurture our school culture, discussed Principal Catherine McNutt. “Talons Out, Owls!”
