Palm Bay Police Officer Eddy Lutz Recognized by IPTM as Florida’s Drug Recognition Expert of the Year

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Police Officer Eddy Lutz was recognized by the Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM) as Florida’s Drug Recognition Expert of the Year.

IPTM was created to provide management and traffic training to municipal, county, state, and federal law enforcement officers.

This prestigious award is a testament to an officer’s dedication, expertise and commitment to keeping our roads safe.

“Becoming a Drug Recognition Expert is no small feat. It requires countless hours of training, continuous education, and an exceptional ability to identify and evaluate impaired drivers,” said a Palm Bay Police spokesperson.

“Officer Lutz has gone above and beyond, demonstrating not only his mastery of these skills but also his passion for ensuring the safety of our community. Congrats Officer Lutz!”

The City of Palm Bay Police Department is authorized 172 sworn police officers, in addition to numerous civilian and support personnel.

The police agency is broken into various sections, such as the Uniform Services Division, Support Services Division, and the Criminal Investigations Division.

Each section assigns officers to various tasks, such as patrol, traffic enforcement, training officers, detectives, and similar tasks. There are three police districts within the city. Police officers are assigned to each district.
