BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – West Melbourne police officers have arrested 24-year-old Rebekah Makenzie Tate of Palm Bay for leaving the scene of a crash with great bodily injury and tampering with evidence.

According to West Melbourne Police Lieutenant Graig Erenstoft, the crash occurred early Sunday morning at the intersection of U.S. 192 and Dairy Road.

“Tate was traveling east on U.S. 192 approaching Dairy Road when her vehicle crashed into a 34-year-old West Melbourne man riding a motorcycle,” said Lt. Erenstoft.

“The force of the crash caused the motorcyclist’s helmet to come off, leaving him in the middle of the roadway with life threatening injuries. Instead of remaining on scene or calling 911, Tate can be seen driving away with the motorcycle still attached to the front of her vehicle.”

Lt. Erenstoft said Tate then pulled her vehicle into the parking lot of a local business in an attempt to hide.

“At one point, Tate attempted to remove the motorcycle from underneath her vehicle,” said Lt. Erenstoft. “She is then is seen talking on her phone before being picked up in a black sedan.”

The 34-year-old driver of the motorcycle was taken to a local area hospital where he was listed in critical condition at the time.

Tate was transported to the Brevard County Jail with a No Bond status.
