WATCH: Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey provided an update on BCSO’s investigation about the shooting of Maui, a Goldendoodle who was shot while the dog’s owner was walking near a Viera apartment complex on Nov. 30.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey provided an update on BCSO’s investigation about the shooting of Maui, a Goldendoodle who was shot while the dog’s owner was walking near a Viera apartment complex on Nov. 30.

Fortunately, the dog is recovering from a gunshot wound to the neck that required emergency surgery.

The BCSO incident report detailed witnesses who said the shooting happened when Maui and the owner were walking him back from the Town Center Dog Park. Witnesses said Maui was not on a leash and approached another dog, and the other dog’s owner shot Maui.

The sheriff’s office confirmed both dog owners received citations, but no arrests were made at that time.

The incident has generated widespread interest and an extensive BCSO investigation. In the above video report, Sheriff Ivey said charges have not been filed while the state attorney considers the case.
