Teen Driver Killed, Passenger Hurt in Early Morning Rollover Crash on State Road 520 in Cocoa

A 16-year-old girl was killed and her 15-year-old passenger was injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash on State Road 520 early Thursday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — A 16-year-old girl was killed and her 15-year-old passenger was injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash on State Road 520 early Thursday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash occurred around 3:40 a.m. near Cressa Circle when the teen driver lost control of a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan while traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle veered into the westbound lanes, overturned several times, and struck a guardrail.

Investigators reported the driver was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her passenger, who was restrained, sustained only minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

All westbound lanes of SR-520 were shut down for several hours but reopened just after 7 a.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by FHP.
