BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department is reminding residents and visitors to make safe choices behind the wheel during the holiday season, emphasizing that impaired driving can quickly turn celebrations into tragedies.
Through a series of holiday themed safety messages, police highlighted that driving under the influence can derail holiday plans, underscoring that even festive traditions and good intentions do not excuse impaired driving.

The department reinforced the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over message, urging drivers to plan ahead before attending gatherings where alcohol may be present.
Officials encouraged the public to designate a sober driver, use alternative transportation, and ensure everyone in the vehicle is properly buckled. The campaign also stressed the importance of staying focused and distraction free while driving, noting that safe driving habits protect not only drivers and passengers but also others on the road.

Melbourne Police emphasized that increased enforcement typically accompanies the holiday season as officers work to keep roadways safe. The department said the goal of the awareness effort is prevention, reminding drivers that responsible choices save lives and help ensure the holidays remain a time of joy rather than loss.

Police urged the community to look out for one another and make safety a priority throughout the season, noting that sober and attentive drivers are the best gift anyone can give during the holidays.
