BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA — The Palm Bay Police Department has announced the promotion of Lieutenant Michael Roberts to the rank of Commander, marking a significant milestone in his distinguished law enforcement career, on January 21.
Lieutenant Roberts, a veteran of the U.S. Army, began his career with the Palm Bay Police Department in 2005. Over the years, he has held several critical positions, demonstrating his commitment to public service and leadership within the department.
His career trajectory includes roles such as Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Corporal, Crime Suppression Officer, and Training Officer.
In 2013, Lieutenant Roberts was promoted to Sergeant, where he supervised teams in various departments, including Patrol, the Special Victim’s Unit, and the Accreditation Unit.
His exemplary leadership and dedication earned him another promotion in 2022, this time to Lieutenant. In this role, he served as the Community Services Division Lieutenant, overseeing multiple units such as the Community Resource Unit, Traffic Unit, Youth Services Unit, and the VCOP Program.
He also took on key responsibilities as the Public Information Officer and Special Events Coordinator while serving as a night shift watch commander in the Uniform Services Division.
Lieutenant Roberts’ long-standing service on the Crisis Negotiations Team further highlights his diverse skill set, having ultimately led the team as its commander.
A strong academic background complements his practical law enforcement experience. Lieutenant Roberts holds an Associate’s Degree in Business Management from Eastern Florida State College, and he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from American Military University.
