PUBLIC SERVICE SPOTLIGHT: Palm Bay Police Officer Honors Mentors, Family, and the City He Protects

For Smith, policing isn’t just a profession

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – On the streets of Palm Bay’s night shift, Officer Smith patrols with a sense of pride and purpose that comes from years of service and dedication.
A four-year veteran of the Palm Bay Police Department, Smith brings with him the discipline and leadership forged during his time with the Florida National Guard — qualities that continue to shape the way he serves his community.
For Smith, policing isn’t just a profession; it’s a calling inspired by the people who have guided and grounded him. He credits his mother and his children for keeping him centered and motivated, reminding him every day of the importance of resilience, love, and commitment.
Professionally, he points to Deputy Sesack of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office as a key mentor who helped him grow as both an officer and an individual.
“The proudest moment of my career was when I went solo as a police officer,” Smith said. “It wasn’t just the end of training—it was the realization of a lifelong dream.”
That dream finds daily purpose on the streets of Palm Bay, a city he describes as deeply supportive of its law enforcement officers. “The best part about working in Palm Bay is the incredible support from the community,” he said. “The citizens here make serving this city truly rewarding.”
The Palm Bay Police Department, one of the largest municipal agencies in Brevard County, shares that sense of community focus.
With a mission centered on integrity, accountability, and partnership, the department works closely with residents to maintain safety and build trust across the city’s diverse neighborhoods.
From youth engagement programs to community outreach events, Palm Bay officers emphasize proactive policing and relationship-building as cornerstones of their approach.
Despite being one of Florida’s largest cities by land area, Palm Bay still retains a small-town spirit that Officer Smith feels every day on duty. “Even as one of the largest cities in Florida,” he said, “it still feels like a close-knit place where neighbors look out for each other.”
For Officer Smith, that connection — between officer and community, service and gratitude — is what makes policing in Palm Bay more than a job. It’s a shared commitment to keeping a city he loves safe, one shift at a time.
