CENTRAL FLORIDA, USA — Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested 28-year-old Alfred Escobar-Hernandez early Wednesday after allegedly clocking his Infiniti sedan at speeds reaching 148 miles per hour on Interstate 4, a violation that falls under the state’s newly enacted Super Speeder law.
According to FHP, a trooper was monitoring westbound I-4 near Lakeland around 2:55 a.m. when an Infiniti G37x caught attention for aggressive driving. Using state-issued radar, the trooper recorded the vehicle traveling 101 mph in a posted 70-mph zone.
Troopers say the vehicle continued accelerating, surpassing 120 mph while the trooper maintained visual contact.
As both vehicles entered Hillsborough County, Escobar-Hernandez allegedly changed lanes and reached a speed of 148 mph.
The pursuing trooper was operating an unmarked Ford Mustang GT, which FHP credits with allowing the officer to safely keep pace and ultimately initiate a traffic stop.
Escobar-Hernandez was taken into custody under Florida’s Super Speeder statute.

The law, which took effect July 1, 2025, authorizes arrests for drivers traveling 100 mph or more or exceeding the posted speed limit by 50 mph or greater. Penalties can include mandatory court appearances, possible license suspension, and additional sanctions depending on circumstances.
FHP officials say aggressive speed enforcement is continuing statewide and used the arrest to highlight the new law and the agency’s specialized enforcement vehicles on social media.
Since the statute went into effect, troopers have reported numerous arrests, including incidents occurring within minutes of the law’s implementation. Officials continue to warn drivers that extreme speeding on Florida highways now carries immediate and serious consequences.
