Fatal Collision Near Deering Parkway Remains Under Investigation by Florida Highway Patrol
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — A semi-truck driver was killed Thursday afternoon in a fiery crash along Interstate 95 in Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:25 p.m. on February 26 near mile marker 232, just north of Deering Parkway.
Investigators said a 2020 semi-truck with a trailer was traveling northbound in the center lane of I-95 when it approached a 2004 Volvo truck also traveling northbound in the center lane ahead of it.
For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the semi-truck failed to slow for traffic ahead and swerved left.
The front right portion of the semi-truck struck the rear left side of the Volvo truck. The impact caused the semi-truck to veer left off the roadway, where it collided with the inside shoulder guardrail. The vehicle then overturned and became engulfed in flames.
The driver of the semi-truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity pending notification and confirmation by the Medical Examiner’s Office. Next of kin had not been notified as of the latest update.
The driver of the Volvo truck, a 23-year-old woman from Lauderhill, and her passenger, a 49-year-old man from Plantation, were not injured in the crash.
Both remained at the scene and were wearing seatbelts, according to investigators.
