BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A death investigation is underway after deputies found the body of an adult male along the Indian River Lagoon shoreline Sunday morning.

Deputies responded to the area near Indian River Drive around 9 a.m. on March 1 after receiving reports that a body had been discovered along the water’s edge.

Preliminary information indicates the individual may be connected to an incident that occurred several days earlier in South Brevard County.

Authorities said that in that case, a person fled from the Sebastian Police Department and entered the lagoon in an apparent attempt to evade law enforcement.

The disappearance prompted a multi-agency search effort in South Brevard County involving the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Despite extensive search efforts, the individual was not located at that time.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.
