BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Sean Houpt of the Florida Tech men’s basketball team has been named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.
This is the Danville, Illinois, product’s second time receiving this award during his career with the Panthers.
Florida Tech traveled to Columbia, SC, for the NCAA South Region Tip-off to begin its season. The Panthers came home with a 67-59 win over Benedict of the SIAC and an 80-72 win against Auburn Montgomery of the GSC.
In the season opener against Benedict, who were receiving votes in the D2 National Poll, Houpt scored a game-high 23 points on 6-of-14 shooting.
The senior, throughout his career, has been a great shooter from behind the arc, and he kept that going with four 3-pointers.
At the charity strike, Houpt was almost perfect, making 7-of-8 attempts. He also made his presence known on the defensive side of the ball with five steals.
The next afternoon in the win against Auburn Montgomery, Houpt had a 19-point game on 6-of-14 shooting. Behind the 3-point line, he one-upped himself from the night before with five triples.
When his team needed him most, Houpt hit two corner threes in the second half to keep the Warhawks from striking distance.
You can catch Houpt and the rest of the Panthers men’s basketball team back in action Saturday, Nov. 19 at Saint Leo for their SSC opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
