BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA — Sarah Stoeckel received the Home Rule Hero Award during the 2025 State of Florida legislative session.
Stoeckel, elected to serve on the city council in 2016, was recently reelected for another 4-year term in November 2024.
The Home Rule Hero Award is presented to elected and non-elected officials who consistently engage with the State of Florida by providing crucial “city-specific” information and serving as an information liaison to members of the state government who ultimately create Florida laws. By fostering these relationships, local problems are addressed and their ultimate solutions come to fruition with limited government interference.
Stoeckel was presented this honor because of her efforts during the legislative session, where she commanded the respect of government and elected officials due to her diligent work ethic while championing Titusville’s immediate and future needs and goals.
“Council Member Stoeckel has worked tirelessly defending the fundamental concepts of Home Rule and pushing back against pre-emptive rulemaking by the State,” said Interim City Manager Thomas Abbate.
“Her recognition as an honorary recipient of the Home Rule Hero Award is a testament to the many hours she has spent advocating for the citizens of the City of Titusville and their right to govern themselves.”
