A coordinated emergency response by the U.S. Coast Guard Station Miami Beach, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue successfully rescued five boaters after a vessel caught fire approximately eight miles east of Key Biscayne.

MIAM, FLORIDA — A coordinated emergency response by the U.S. Coast Guard Station Miami Beach, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue successfully rescued five boaters after a vessel caught fire approximately eight miles east of Key Biscayne.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. A nearby citizen stepped in to help rescue the five individuals on board.

According to officials, the rescued boaters were transported to shore by the sheriff’s office and were reported to be in good health following the ordeal.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews responded quickly and successfully extinguished the vessel fire. Authorities credited the vessel owner’s use of a registered Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon and a functioning VHF radio for enabling a swift response, ensuring help arrived in time.

The U.S. Coast Guard emphasizes the importance of carrying proper safety and communication equipment on board to enhance survival and rescue outcomes in water emergencies.
