BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police Chief Evander Collier IV administered the police officer’s oath this week to the newest member of the Cocoa Police Department, Ninoshka Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, 22, was officially sworn in during a special ceremony Thursday morning in front of her family, friends, and police department staff, and the city’s mayor.
Officer Rodriguez, 22, is originally from Puerto Rico. She was raised by a single mom alongside her brother. The family moved to Florida when she was 8 years old.

While earning her bachelor’s degree in forensic science, she interned with our crime scene technicians.
It was there she realized she wanted to become a police officer. She was hired on as a police officer trainee while she attended the law enforcement academy at Eastern Florida State College. She graduated Wednesday evening.
Rodriguez will spend the next several months in training learning the policies, procedures and operational practices of being a law enforcement officer with the Cocoa Police Department.
Upon successful completion of all four phases of the department’s field training and evaluation program, she will be assigned to a squad and begin patrol duties.
