Florida State Statute 316.130(7) requires drivers to stop and remain stopped at any marked crosswalk when a pedestrian has stepped into or is within the crosswalk. Failure to follow this law can result in a traffic citation, but more importantly, it puts lives at risk.

One area we know to be a continued concern is the marked crosswalk at S. Washington Avenue and Palmetto Street.

Starting August 4, through August 8, between the hours of 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., TPD will be increasing traffic and pedestrian safety enforcement, in partnership with Best Foot Forward, to ensure everyone is following the rules of the road and protecting our most vulnerable roadway users.

Please stay alert, yield to pedestrians, and always drive with care.
